Competition rules

The race is run according to the rules of the Swedish Athletics Federation. Runners participate at their own risk.

Ramboll Stockholm Half Marathon is sanctioned bySvenska Friidrottsförbundetand AIMS – Association of International Marathons and Road Races.Only runners born in 2000 or earlier are eligible to compete.

The course measures 21,098 metres – a half marathon.

The course measurement has been checked by AIMS course measurer, Hugh Jones and Swedish Federation measurer, Micke Hill in June 2019.

It is important that you observe the barriers or tape, set up on certain roads which are still open to oncoming traffic. Police and/or officials are at every junction on the course. Please following their directions.

Kilometre points are clearly signposted along the course.

Timing is done with the aid of a chip which you will get in the envelope with your number bib. The chip must be worn on your shoe during the whole race. Mats, which are laid out on the start line, at intervals along the course and at the finish line, read the chip at a maximum distance of 50 cm. So it’s important to wear the chip on your shoe and not, for example, around your wrist.

Your exact running time will be recorded in Ramboll Stockholm Half Marathon. The chip records your time from the moment you leave the start line until you reach the finish line. This is called your ‘net time’. Your ‘brutto time’ (the time from when your start group’s gun is fired until you reach the finish line) is also recorded in the results which are published on our web site directly after the race.

Think of the environment and return your chip for recycling after the race to one of the chip-return containers beyond the runners’ service area.

Four split times

Split times are shown at 5 km, 10 km, 15 km and 20 km.

Remember that the clocks start at the start time for the first group (Group A) so this means that runners in start group B need to deduct 5 minutes, runners in group C, 10 minutes, runners in group D, 15 minutes, runners in group E, 20 minutes, runners in group F, 25 minutes and runners in group G should deduct 30 minutes from the time which is shown.

Your split times are recorded at 5km, 10km, 15km and 20km. These times are published with the results after the race.

Maximum time

The police authorities have given us a maximum time for the race of 2 hours 45 minutes. This means that if you start in the last start group, group G, you must reach the finish line by 18:45 at the latest.

Control times at 12 km and 17 km

At 12km there is a control point which all runners must pass by 17:35 at the latest in order to be allowed to continue. At 17km, at Tantolunden, there is a second control point which all runners must pass by 18:15 to be allowed to continue. We provide transport to an area close to the finish to all those who do not make it to the control points in time.

If you need to drop out of the race, we provide transport from the refreshment stations at Kungholms Strand (6.5km), Rålambshovsparken (9.5km) and Tantolunden (17km) to an area near the finish. If you drop out near the other refreshment stations, make your own way back to the start/finish.

If you are unsure which pace you need to keep in Ramboll Stockholm Half Marathon, you can run alongside one of our pacemakers. Experienced runners, equipped with a distinctive flag, run at a steady pace. We have pacemakers for the following finish times:
1 hour 30 min – 1 hour 40 min – 1 hour 45 min – 1 hour 50 min – 2 hours – 2 hours 10 min and 2 hours 20 min.

Seven refreshment stations

There are seven refreshment stations along the course – after 3.5 km, 6.5 km, 9.5 km, 12.5 km, 15 km, 17 km and 19.5 km.  Water only is provided at the 3.5km and 15 km points. At the other stations water and sports drink are provided. The sports drink is Enervit G Sport, lemon flavour and this will be on the first set of tables with water on the second set of tables.

Drink sensibly

It is important to keep the right fluid balance during Ramboll Stockholm Half Marathon. If it is warm and you don’t drink enough before and during the race, you can suffer from dehydration.  This will impair your performance and, in the worst case, can lead to the body overheating. If you drink too much in relation to how much you sweat, then the body fluids become too diluted and your salt level reaches a dangerously low level. So you need to drink the right amount. A good rule of thumb: drink when you feel thirsty!

Five sponge stations

There are sponge stations at the refreshment stations at 6.5 km, 9.5 km, 15 km, 17 km and 19.5 km.

Three energy stations

In addition to the seven refreshment stations, there are also three energy stations on the course:

  • Bananas
  • Grape sugar tablets from Dextro Energy
  • Enervit Gel with raspberry and lemon taste

  • Enervit Pit stop – Enervit Competition bar with apricot/orange flavour.

Encouragement along the course

Bands and DJs will be playing music all along the course to entertain and inspire you and your fellow runners. This will help you all the way to the finish line then beyond to our fantastic After Run.

The finish is on Norrbro, in front of the Royal Palace and Parliament Building. Please follow the officials’ instructions at the finish to help us manage the flow of people.

Directly after the finish line, all those who complete the race in the maximum time of 2 hours, 45 minutes will receive a Ramboll Stockholm Half Marathon medal. After the medal distribution there will be Cloetta Kexchoklad, Exotic Snacks, Arla More, Enervit and more.

Prizes are awarded to the top 30 male and female runners after the race.  Prizes are also awarded to the top three in every age group based on the net times. These prizes are sent by post to the winners.

Results service

Split times and preliminary results will be published live on the Ramboll Stockholm Half Marathon website during the race. The official results list will be published just over a week after the race on www.stockholmhalvmarathon.se

Meeting point after the race

Remember to arrange in advance where you will meet your friends and family after the race. The telephone network can be overloaded with so many people in a small area and it can be difficult to call. Note also that the runners service area on Strömgatan is restricted to runners only.

Your amazing achievement at Ramboll Stockholm Half Marathon demands an equally amazing finale, which we aim to provide for you and your friends at our After Run.

Toilets and changing rooms

There are toilets at the start and finish area and also at every refreshment station along the course.

Clothing drop-off and safety deposit

You can hand in your clothing on Strömgatan from 14:00. Use the bag and label which you get when you collect your number bib. After the race, you collect your clothing from the same place. It is important that you attach to your bag the label with your name and start number. When you collect your clothing after the race, you just show your number bib which is your receipt. This service closes at 19:30.

You can also leave your wallet, keys, etc in our safety deposit on Strömgatan from 14:00 (see above map). Please turn off your mobile phone. It is important that you attach the label with your name and start number. When you collect your valuables after the race, you just show your number bib which is your receipt. This service closes at 19:30.

ARE YOU feeling fit?

Remember to take it easy at the start, 21,098 metres is a demanding distance and you need to save energy for the end of the race. Don’t come to the start if you are not completely healthy, and remember that there is no shame in dropping out if you are exhausted. There is a risk in running if you have a cold or do not feel 100%. If you are not sure whether to run or not, please don’t hesitate to contact our medical team who will be in Gustav Adolfs square on Saturday.

Medical service

Medical officials are at every refreshment station and at the start and finish. Medical officials have the authority to take injured or exhausted runners off the course.

Photo service

Professional photographers from Marathon-photos.com will be out on the course and at the finish taking photos of all the runners. In the results list you will be able to click on a link to photos of yourself.

Our recycling partner, Sortera, will take care of all the rubbish at the race. There will be different containers for different types of waste. In general you will see large green rubbish bins on wheels and green containers.  In certain places, you can separate food waste, returnable bottles (pant) and glass.

Along the course, the refreshment stations use compostable cups which are also collected by Sortera.

Please look for Sortera’s green bins when you dispose your rubbish. This will help us with our cleaning and recycling.
